The Deer Shunters

Safer Biking Day

Sunday 18th June 2006

18/06/06 will be Day 6 of the Challenge,4th day into Europe, a day when we are asking fellow bikers to reflect on their driving habits, become more tolerant and realize that many deaths on our roads could have been avoided.

If you are out riding on the 18th June 2006 we would ask you to attach a small piece of RED cloth to your bike and ride in a dignified quiet manner, paying respect to those fellow motorbike riders who have lost their lives on our roads.

If we as club can make an effort to assist all the clubs, Bike Safe and others promoting safer biking then we will have done some good.

We are finding each year a large increase in motorcycle traffic here in the highlands with every summer bringing at least one horror story close to home. If by promoting a safer biking day we can stop one accident then we will have done some good.

We will, on Sunday 18th of June be riding through Slovakia / Hungary / Romania and will all be riding with particular attention to the day, asking you if you are out riding the same day to do the same.

All big Thank you for helping us to promote this.

Tony Austin, John Bryden, Alan Knox, Neil MacKellaig, Bertie McMinn, Alasdair Sinclair, Tony Skea, Mike Whelan

The Deer Shunters strongly recommend that you and your club / fellow riders attend BIKE SAFE run by the majority of Police forces throughout the country.

For foreign visitors, please visit BIKE SAFE web site and read about safety on our roads.
